Flies ...

Exodus 8:20-24 speaks of a mess of flies.

However, in the midst of that mess, God favored His people. Bible Historians tell us that those flies were dog flies. A dog-fly is a ferocious biting insect. Dog flies are blood suckers. Their bites leave people swollen and disfigured. Dog flies also lay their eggs in various places, such as fermenting vegetation, manure, and garbage. Those eggs produce maggots, which then destroy the land.

However, notice what verses 22-24 say, “’But on that day I will deal differently with the land of Goshen, where my people live; no swarms of flies will be there, so that you will know that I, the Lord, am in this land. I will make a distinction between my people and your people. This sign will occur tomorrow.’ And the Lord did this. Dense swarms of flies poured into Pharaoh’s palace and into the houses of his officials; throughout Egypt the land was ruined by the flies.”

In the series of plagues, this is the first plague where God made a distinction between His people and the Egyptians. Church! God is still in the business of showing His people distinct favor. Oh sure! God’s favor is always unleashed in His perfect timing and it might not always come in a way that we would have hand-picked, but rest assured, God will take care of our needs as promised!

Philippians 4:19 has never been truer, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” We need to remember that we are not bums wandering through this world, but rather, we are Children of the King! Our God is the Creator! He is all-powerful. God owns it all and He is perfectly capable of aiding us when we need Him the most!

God is still in the business of showing His people favor.

The enemy, however is a fear monger. The devil is like a slick politician. He loves to tell you what is wrong and then tell you who is to blame for it. The devil desires to scare the heaven out of us ... but ... I would remind all of us this morning that life is not about who is against us, but rather, who is for us.

Folks, “The Lord does whatever pleases Him...” (Psalm 135:6) and it pleases Him to take such good care of us!

God is still in the business of showing His people favor.

People talk about having connections, but the Christian is best connected! Someone else might now so and so and such and such, but the Christian knows God Almighty … … and "When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him." (Isaiah 59:19

God is still in the business of showing His people favor.
