In 1st Thessalonians 5:23, Paul tells believers, people who are already saved and living the Christian life, to let, “… God Himself … sanctify (them) through and through …” In other words, God was and is trying to relay the message that being saved is just the first step in the spiritual development of a believer. The second step is the act of entire sanctification where God fills us with His Holy Spirit and we set ourselves off to the side for God’s special purposes and His purposes alone. When a person is saved, God forgives that person of sins committed. When a saved person gets sanctified, that sanctified and set off to the side person has a fighting chance to say no to the sins that once held him or her captive.
Becoming sanctified does not make a person perfect. There is no such animal. However, when a saved soul becomes sanctified, that sanctified person develops a perfect heart that desires to please God with every word thought and deed. A Holy and Right Lifestyle is the proof of that process and that is only possible when we are filled with God’s Spirit to the point where there is no room left for us and the sinful nature that we are all born with. In a way, being filled with God’s Spirit gives us victory over ourselves.
AT THE END OF THE DAY, THIS ENTIRE DEAL IS A LOVE GIFT FROM GOD!
