“While Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.”
As a result of being in prison, Joseph ends up being promoted to the #2 man in all of Egypt. We will celebrate that in just a few short weeks.
Now follow me here. His brothers threw Joseph into a pit. He was then sold into slavery and taken to Egypt. While serving Potiphar in Egypt, Potiphar’s wife accused Joseph of rape and Joseph was unjustly thrown into prison for doing what God had asked him to do. While in prison, Joseph interpreted the dreams of Pharaoh’s chief baker and Pharaoh’s chief cupbearer who were also in prison for being naughty. Because God helped Joseph interpret both of those dreams correctly, the chief cupbearer told Pharaoh that his dreams could be accurately interpreted by Joseph. Joseph did just that and rose to the # 2 man in the empire.
As Joseph sat in prison, I wonder if he had these thoughts, “God! Where are you? God, are you absent without leave? God, all I was doing was serving You and here I sit as a result.”
At the end of the day! Joseph saw how God had been there all of the time. That same God still sits on His throne today.
Here is what I know. Our God is real when things are going well and our God is real when everything seems to be falling apart.
I guess it is all about finding gold in the garbage!
