A Garage Sale!

The devil had a garage sale one day!

He was selling away all of his tools: lying, hatred, malice, lust, greed, envy, jealousy, and pride. However, over in the corner, there was one tool that was priced so high that nobody could afford to buy it. The devil wanted it that way!  The devil did not want and does not want anyone to buy his favorite tool … the tool is discouragement!

It is amazing what one little drop of discouragement in our ear can do. It is just as amazing to see what happens when a good testimony is poured into the ear.

In Ephesians 4:27, Paul tells us not to allow the sun to go down on our anger because all that does is give the devil a, “foothold.”  I would say this morning that we should not let the sun go down on our discouragement either because that also gives the devil a foothold not to mention a handhold not to mention a neck hold!  That word, "foothold" can be translated as, "a license." In a sense, you and I give the devil a license – a measure of authority – a certain jurisdiction over a part of our lives -- when we go to bed angry and the same thing occurs when we go to bed discouraged.

Be encouraged today by the words of Isaiah 59:19, "When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him."
