James 4:7 tells us to, “Submit (ourselves), then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from (us).”The Greek word that is translated into, “resist” literally means, “to take a stand against or oppose.” So, James 4:7 is actually saying, “Submit (ourselves), then, to God. (Take a stand and oppose) the devil, and he will flee from (us).”
That is how we defeat evil! Just say no! Take a stand! Oppose evil and win! Often times, we say maybe to sin instead of no, leaving the option open for us to say yes. That is not the way to defeat the devil!
Have you ever had a salesperson try to sell you something at your front door?
Often times, we do not want to tell that salesperson no, so we tell him or her to come back later when our spouse is home. Guess what! Since we told the salesperson maybe, he or she will come back that same night to make the sell. Salespeople are persistent.
The devil is just as persistent!
If we say maybe to sin and to evil, the devil will keep coming back until we say no. Starting today, let us all say no and slam the door right in the devil’s face!
Titus 2:12 is very black and white, “…say no to ungodliness and worldly passions.”
